The Primary Care track is designed to prepare students as nurse practitioners in the primary care of individuals and families. Unlike the Primary Care specialization, students in the Advanced Practice Immersion program can have an undergraduate degree in a non-nursing discipline. Primary care is defined as comprehensive and continuous care that includes those services necessary for health promotion, prevention of disease and disability and health maintenance. Graduates are prepared for independent and collaborative decision-making in disease prevention, health promotion and maintenance. Students will have the opportunity to develop the nurse practitioner role in primary care settings in under-served areas and community based settings. Students are eligible to sit for national certification.
