The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering provides breadth and depth in five major areas of civil engineering: (1) Environmental Engineering,(2) Geotechnical Engineering, (3) Hydraulic and Water Resource Engineering,(4) Structural and Materials Engineering,(5) Transportation Engineering.Taken together, these five areas describe the challenge of the civil engineering profession which is to effectively utilize our nation's natural resources to build, maintain and improve our nation's infrastructure, while at the same time preserving and protecting the environment.
