Our NFS Master`s program offers opportunities to pursue specialized study under the tutelage of a widely-published research scientist in a department full of seasoned scholars. The department funds 9 graduate fellowships each year; individual faculty also fund additional graduate students through grants. The Master of Science in Dietetics (MSD) housed within the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Vermont is a two-year, 30-credit curriculum that includes supervised practice in clinical and community nutrition and food service administration with an emphasis in Community Health and Nutrition. Upon completion of the supervised practice and all requirements for the MSD, students will be granted a verification statement of completion of the program and will be eligible to sit for the Registration Exam for Dietitians. A doctoral degree in Animal, Nutrition and Food Sciences (ANFS) is offered through a joint program administered by the departments of Animal Science and Nutrition and Food Sciences. This interdisciplinary program provides advanced education and research training in mammalian physiology and endocrinology, mammary gland biology, basic and applied nutrition and food microbiology and technology. In addition to a common core of required courses, ANFS doctoral students will choose from one of three tracks for specialized study: Nutriion, Food Science or Animal Science.
