Since the 1960s, Shenandoah University has played an integral role in the education of nurses in the northern Shenandoah Valley. This rich tradition includes a program of study in the Division of Nursing that culminates in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Preparation for present and future nursing practice must address ever-changing, increasingly complex, and multi dimensional health needs of our society. To become educated, learners become involved in intellectual work and critical thinking in order to transform information into knowledge, skills, values, meanings, and experiences necessary for the provision, management, and coordination of general nursing care for individuals, families, groups, and communities at the baccalaureate level. The scholarly habits of learning, established early, increase the graduate's lifetime ability to contribute to the discipline/profession of nursing and to society.

Many faculty are currently practicing as nurses in their chosen specialty areas, making them particularly suited to give the student the most current and practical education available. In addition, the low student-to-faculty ratio allows faculty to spend valuable time with students, facilitating a personal touch lacking in so many larger schools of nursing.

Accreditation Information: The Division of Nursing offers Baccalaureate and Masters Degree Programs, which are fully accredited by: Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) American Association of Colleges of Nursing
