M.A.Ed. Program in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Gifted Education. Why be a teacher? Because it is challenging and never boring; because the future of our country, our world, depends upon what happens in our schools. Impact the future - become a teacher through one of our graduate programs in elementary education, secondary education, or special education. Already a teacher? Then challenge yourself further by working toward an endorsement in gifted education. Each master’s degree program is structured around a specialized curriculum to prepare students for a particular focus, and include relevant, engaging field experiences culminating in student teaching. Because our students remain in the same school for practica and for student teaching, they experience a smooth transition. The student teaching seminar allows for rich group discussion and university instructor feedback about their teaching experiences. Alumni of William and Mary achieve early recognition for their teaching skill, gravitate to leadership roles and are seen as innovators. William and Mary graduates outshine their peers in assessment practices. In addition, the School has graduated more teachers carrying the AACTE’s Meritorious New Teacher Candidate designation than all other Virginia institutions put together. William and Mary is a recognized leader in curriculum development, with 35 states using curriculum developed at our Center for Gifted Education. Ph.D. or Ed.D. programs in Gifted Education Administration are also available.
