The School of Education offers an M.Ed. Program in Administration and Supervision designed to prepare individuals as instructional leaders in schools. The curriculum emphasizes instructional leadership, the policy context of administration, and operational management of schools. The program is accredited by the National Association of Colleges of Teacher Education and was awarded approved program status by the Virginia Department of Education.
Students have two options in receiving the Master of Education in Administration and Supervision: the educational administration track or the educational administration and supervision PK-12 track. The educational administration track is a 36-hour program designed for individuals who aspire to leadership or policy positions in educational settings other than schools. The educational administration track does not lead to certification as a school principal or supervisor.
The educational administration and supervision PK-12 track is a 39-hour program designed for individuals who aspire to positions as instructional leaders in schools. Students in the PK-12 track who wish to be endorsed as a school principal will also need to complete the Principals Assessment Certification Program. Applicants for the PK-12 track are expected to have had at least two years successful teaching experience.
