As our structural infrastructure ages there is a fast developing need for expertise in the assessment of its condition, and reliability in its maintenance and repair technology. In order to be able to assess the structural performance of either deteriorated structures or those for which a new purpose is intended, it is often necessary to undertake rigorous assessment. A thorough understanding of materials behaviour at both the micro and macro scale, and under both loading and environmental conditions is also required. The aim of this MSc course is to provide students with the knowledge to address such issues, together with an introduction to the techniques required for assessment and repair or rehabilitation of structures. Selected modules from the MScin Structural Engineering will be supplemented with modules specifically aimed at repair, maintenance and rehabilitation. The course will use an interdisciplinary teaching team which will include contributions from industry.
