This course combines research training in economic and social history with a chosen specialist option and dissertation. It has ESRC recognition and carries an ESRC Quota award. Research training meets the ESRC requirements for MA and higher degrees and takes into account potential employment areas. In the first semester, we offer units in Computer applications and statistical skills; Theories of economy and society; and Historiography, for which you prepare critical reviews and a research bibliography for your dissertation. In the second semester you choose one advanced unit in economic and social history (options include Modern British, Modern European, Medical, Business and Labour, and Social History) in which you are examined. You also complete a 12,000-word dissertation, on a topic agreed with your specialist supervisor.
