Topics include: changing notions of political obligation and consent; ideas about power, gender and social relations; the nature of government and authority; popular culture; witchcraft; the English Revolution; and the history of rebellions. Special attention is given to the regional history of East Anglia, due to the local presence of rich,under-exploited archival sources concerning most aspects of early modern English history. Students will receive optional training in palaeography, and will alsoattend sessions on historiography and historical theory.
