The Master of Arts in Teaching at St. Edward's University is an innovative, rigorous program designed to prepare educators and teachers to respond to the challenges in today's schools and lead transformative social change in education in the 21st century. The innovative curriculum distinguishes the Mater of Arts in Teaching at St. Edward's Unviersty form traditional master's programs in education. At its core, the program focuses on helping the student learn strategies for facilitating change in schools and within learning organizations. Students develop a deeper understanding of teaching to enhance learning and affect positive change in schools and other diverse educational settings. The student acquires proficiency in the use of instructional technology for planning, assessment and action research. Students gain new insights into how diversity, politics and ethical issues shape educational policy and practice. Students explore the role of data for decision making and designing curriculum and instruction. The program explores the best practices for communicating with and involving parents adn community partners in school and workforce initiatives to enhance student and workplace performance. Those who wish to become a certified teacher in Texas may do so in this program. Certified teachers can expand and enhance their career by completing the Teacher Leadership concentration. Those educators in the corporate setting gain knowledge through the Organizational Development and Training concentration. The Sports Management concentration can assist coaches and teachers by learning management skills needed in athletic leadership, while the Conflict Resolution concentration can help those teachers, administrators and coaches already working in the educational field.
