Certificate
TESOL
On Campus

The goal of the ESOL program is to train individuals to teach English to non-native English speakers. Individuals who take both programs will meet South Carolina requirements for endorsement to teach in public schools. This program will attract both practicing teachers as well as individuals who want to work in other arenas, such as non-profit organizations, businesses, or those who expect to work/teach abroad; for such individuals, this certificate will constitute evidence of a body of knowledge in the field of ESOL. The program is divided into two certificates. Completion of Certificate I will form a solid foundation for beginning ESOL teachers, whether they will be teaching in public or private schools, as volunteers working with children and/or adults, or within the business sector. For teachers who have already taken ESOL courses provided by the state, or who have taken the four courses outlined in Certificate I, the courses included in Certificate II will help them complete the hours they need for endorsement. Courses offered in both certificate programs are designed to give students a strong underpinning in the theories and methodologies necessary for teaching ESOL.
