The Clemson Department of Chemistry offers programs leading to Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees with emphases available in all areas of modern chemistry, including the traditional areas of analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry and also less traditional areas such as polymer and materials chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, bio-organic and medicinal chemistry, solid-state chemistry, and chemical physics. Individual programs of study may involve concentration in one of the traditional areas of chemistry or in a combination of areas. The usual time for completion of the MS degree is two to three years, and that for the PhD degree is four to five years.
