Entering students in the Structural Biophysics program are primarily physics and chemistry undergraduate majors who have a strong interest in structural and physical areas of biology including X-ray crystallography, NMR, molecular dynamics and related computational areas, spectroscopy, etc. The Structural Biophysics program also appeals to some biology majors who have a very strong minor in physics or chemistry (and to the graduates of one of the few biophysics undergraduate programs). Upon entry, each student is given a diagnostic exam to identify possible areas of informational weakness that require remedial study. Students with mediocre performances are required either to audit the appropriate undergraduate course or to do reading from a specific reading list as determined by the program committee.
