Master's
M.A.- English
On Campus

The Master of Arts Program in English Language and Literature initiates students into the methods and values of current scholarship in English. Its curriculum seeks a balance between traditional, historical understanding of literary periods and theoretically based considerations of writing and reading. The range of approaches reflects the quality of the experience each student is expected to gain from the program: familiarization with much of the literature written in English will combine with a development of skills and self-awareness in the critical sensibility. Advanced training in the field is completed by close guidance from faculty and a high degree of interaction among faculty and students. The student will move through a series of small, intensive classes toward a Master's thesis or a combined oral / written field examination. Whether a student choses the Master's degree as a terminal degree or intends to pursue doctoral studies, the program conforms to a high standard of intellectual rigor.

Accreditation Information: Villanova and its programs have received accreditation through the Middle States Association of Colleges and secondary Schools
