This three-semester program emphasizes theory of writing and the profession, print and digital media projects with professional clients, scientific and technical areas tailored to students’ interests, a commitment to individual guidance, strong connections with alumni, and 100 percent placement in internships. Graduates have experience in cutting edge hardware and software and conceptual frameworks for assuming leadership roles, especially for managing information, projects, people, and departments. Students take 12 hours of writing and design in print and digital media; 11 hours in rhetoric, linguistics, organizational communication, editing, and project management; 9 hours of graduate electives in cognate courses; 9 hours of undergraduate coursework in a technical or scientific specialty of their choice; and a 14-week internship. Teaching assistants mentor with an experienced teacher before becoming instructors themselves, and they take 2 seminars in pedagogy and classroom practice.
