The Molecular Virology Program offers graduate studies leading to the Ph.D. and combined M.D./Ph.D. degrees. The program is designed to prepare highly qualified and motivated students for careers in biomedical research focused on RNA and DNA viruses or viral vectors. The program has 22 faculty drawn from several departments at Case Western Reserve University and from The Lerner Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. The faculty have particular strengths in the areas of replication and structure of viruses, virus-host interactions, viral oncogenesis, and use of viral vectors to introduce genes into cells.
