The Department of Economics offers a Ph.D. program to prepare students for careers in academia, business, and government. The first year of study focuses on the fundamentals of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods. The department offers eight major fields: mathematical economics and game theory, econometrics, monetary and macroeconomics, labor economics, industrial organization, public finance and urban economics, international economics, and economic history. An experimental economics program has recently been added, and students can take fields in related disciplines, such as economic development and finance.
