The Miami University College Student Personnel (CSP) M.S. program and the Student Affairs Higher Education (SAHE) Ph.D. program comprise a comprehensive curriculum and a variety of practical experiences to fully prepare graduate students for the Student Affairs profession. The faculty and student affairs practitioners on campus work cooperatively with students in designing opportunities that allow them to pursue specific interest areas. In both programs, learning is a communal act. The in-class and out-of-class environment of the program can be characterized as a "community of scholars" - students and faculty collaborating to create, understand, and apply knowledge to help you develop a professional identity. In our view, an effective educational environment involves academic and student affairs educators working as partners in the process of educating students. Our goal is to prepare student affairs professionals for leadership roles in this partnership. We ground our approach to educational practice in valuing and using multiple perspectives. Subsequently, the programs use numerous disciplinary foci or lenses (e.g.,cultural studies, student development and social foundations of education). The programs promote the understanding of students, the learning process, higher education organizations, the role of education in our society, the student affairs profession, and approaches to inquiry. Graduates of our programs are well prepared for professional positions in higher education. We sincerely appreciate your interest in our programs.
