Doctoral
Ph.D - focuses on preparing future leaders and faculty members in Counselor Education through research and hands-on experience
On Campus

The School Counseling track focuses on those individuals who are interested in becoming a school counselor at a public or private school. The Counselor Education program at OSU is unique in its urban focus and close connection with Columbus Public Schools. The program is one of the national leaders in the Transforming School Counseling Initiative , helping school counselors focus on improving academic success.

Those interested in Community Counseling focus on assessment and intervention. The program is designed for those who wish to work in a clinical, hospital, or private practice setting. The Community Counseling track leads to State of Ohio licensure as a professional clinical counselor (PCC). With a PCC in Ohio, counselors can practice independently, or within the context of hospitals, clinics, and community agencies. Counselors are able to diagnose and treat individuals with mental and emotional disorders, do career counseling, testing, etc.

The Counselor Education doctoral program is small and focuses on a mentoring model. Much of the learning for Ph.D students occurs outside of the classroom û students serve on research teams, supervise masters-level students, co-teach courses, and learn how to write, present, and publish grants.
