Degrees: Program Format:
Master's
M.S.-Library and Information Science (LIU's Palmer School) and M.A., M.S., or M.F.A.-any field except linguistics (NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Science)
On Campus

This program allows students to complete two master's degrees for 13 fewer credits than if they took each degree separately. Graduates receive an American Library Association (ALA) accredited M.S. degree in library and information science from Long Island University's Palmer School and a master's degree in any field except linguistics from the Graduate School of Arts and Science at NYU. A degree in library and information science prepares information specialists—those who can find, analyze, and present information in any setting. Information professionals now take jobs in such areas as marketing, strategic planning, Web site development, and information architecture, in addition to working in traditional library settings. The program emphasizes preparation for a variety of positions in academic and research libraries. It features a unique mentoring program. Students apply separately for admission to NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Science and to the Palmer School. Students already enrolled in NYU's GSAS may apply for this program if they have completed no more than 16 credits at GSAS.

Accreditation Information: New York University is a member of the Association of American Universities and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The Palmer School of Long Island University's C. W. Post College is ALA accredited.
