The Department of Jewish History is the largest such department in North America. It awards MA, DHL, and PhD degrees and offers courses across the full spectrum of ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary Jewish history. Core courses are complemented by a wide variety of offerings in JTS's other departments. An expert faculty teaches the history of the Jews of the Mediterranean world, the Near East, Europe, and the United States. A stimulating and warm community of scholars, the faculty and students here share a common dedication to the pursuit of learning. Students enjoy access to the JTS library and its unparalleled collection of primary sources--manuscripts, early printed books, and other original documents--for research into the social and intellectual history of past and contemporary Jewish communities.
