The Graduate Program in Psychology at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, has one of the country's largest contributing faculties, drawing on the fifty members of the psychology department and over fifty scientists from other Rutgers departments, from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School-University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, from the Rutgers' Center of Alcohol Studies, the Rutger's Center for Cognitive Science,the Laboratory of Vision Research, and from neighboring pharmaceutical companies and high-tech industries. This large faculty permits students wide latitude in planning a course of study; they may prepare for a traditional career inteaching or research, or for new opportunities in business and industry.

The program offers four areas of specialization, although several interests may be integrated in a particular course of study:

  • Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience ;
  • Clinical ;
  • Cognitive;
  • Social;
  • In addition, two interdisciplinary programs are offered:
    Behavioral Health and Developmental Psychology
