The Life-Span Developmental Psychology Program emphasizes the life-span perspective, within which students may specialize in cognitive-linguistic and social-emotional development, including interfaces with health and biological processes. These specializations can apply to one or several periods of the life span from infancy, childhood, and adolescence, to adulthood and old age. The progressive organization of behavior is the focus of study in seminars and major funded research projects. The department maintains a laboratory school for children from infancy through age five. It has close associations with the Institute of Gerontology and the Merrill-Palmer Institute. A Masters Degree program in Human Development is also offered. Most students accepted into the Ph.D. program in psychology receive full financial aid.
