The Master of Arts in Fire Science and Administration prepares fire service professionals for advancement to the upper ranks of a private or municipal fire service organization and for positions in a state or federal fire service organization. The curriculum provides the student with tangible administrative and operational knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential to success in light of the expanded role and higher expectations of contemporary fire and rescue operations. To earn a master's degree in Fire Science and Administration, students must complete seven required courses, six elective courses, as well as a publicly-defended, written graduate thesis. Required courses include: Ethical Theory (Division of Graduate Studies requirement) ; Organizational Theory and Behavior; Essentials of Emergency Management; Command and Control of Significant Events; Fire Service Strategic Planning and Risk Analysis; Fire Service Communication and Technology; Leadership of Change within Fire Service Organizations Anna Maria offers a diverse range of elective courses, including: Incident Command Systems; Hazardous Materials Management; Human Resource Management; Strategies for Radiological Response; Multiple Agency Coordination and Management Students may also take electives from related graduate programs.
