The Department of Agronomy offers graduate study in all of the traditional soils disciplines - fertility, microbiology, mineralogy, genesis and morphology, physics and chemistry. In addition to crop physiologists who specialize in cotton and soybean research and a plant nutritionist, we have faculty who specialize in the breeding and genetics of wheat, oats, corn, soybeans, forages and cotton. LSU is also one of the few universities where research is conducted in rice breeding, genetics, and production, and one of only two universities in the nation having a program in sugarcane production. The department also houses the state Soil Testing Laboratory, Cotton Fiber Testing Laboratory, and Plant Analysis Laboratory.
