Master's
M.S.-Student Affairs and Higher Education
On Campus
Online

The 39 hour master’s degree program in student affairs and higher education is designed to provide professional training for entry positions in the student affairs field at university, college, and two-year post-secondary levels. Focus areas of performance include residence halls, student development, management, admissions, financial aid, student activities, student health promotion, career development, non-traditional student populations, and other areas. A corollary purpose is to provide a foundation for advanced work in this field and the closely related fields of counseling, guidance, and higher education. The program is offered on campus and as distance education. The distinct features of the program include: * Program emphasis areas in Leadership, Diversity, and Experience. These elements are integrated into every aspect of the curriculum, including courses, practica, and co-curricular opportunities. * Two tracks, one that is on-campus and in which students engage in paid assistantship experiences and practica and complete all coursework at the ISU campus. The Distance Education track serves the working professional, delivered via the Web and in which students take all coursework while also engaging in practica experiences. * Integrated, performance-based curriculum that allows on-campus students to complete coursework in two academic years (five semesters including a middle summer experience) and distance-students to complete coursework in just under three years (eight semesters including two summers). * Strong integration between course learning and practice as manifested through assistantship/employment and 3 practicum experiences. * Graduation and placement rates that exceed 95%. * Strong diversity of students from across the United States with about ¼ coming from Indiana. * Strong commitment to diversity and cultural competence reflected in the backgrounds and skill sets of faculty, students, and curriculum.
