These students take a common set of courses, acceptable in participating departments, and choose their research advisor at the end of their first year from the MCS faculty members. The student earns a Ph.D. degree in one of six departments. The Ph.D. program is directed by the department selected by the student with a specialemphasis on MCS. The Ph.D. degree is awarded by the University upon recommendation of the MCS student's chose department.
