The Master of Public Health (M.P.H.), degree is a widely recognized and highly prized professional degree intended for individuals who plan to practice public health rather than conduct research. The MPH prepares students for careers in a wide variety of applications including assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of effective programs and policies in public health including systematic uses of data and information systems; application of health promotion and disease/injury prevention principles to assure healthy populations; and assuring access to cost-effective care including health promotion and evaluation of that care. Examples of settings include communities, healthcare systems, businesses, the media, academia, and local, state or federal government. Examples of employment The UI MPH program offers 4 combined degree options for those who have been admitted to IowaÆs post-baccalaureate programs in medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and nursing. In addition, we offer programs in biostatistics, community & behavioral health, health communication, ergonomics, occupational and environmental health, epidemiology, and health policy & administration. An ACGME- accredited occupational medicine residency program is also available. MPH Seminars bring students into contact with public health practitioners throughout each semester. Attendance at professional meetings is encouraged. Part-time enrollment is permitted. Although it is not possible to earn the entire degree without coming to campus, core courses in public health are offered via distance education. The College and the program are fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
