Master's
M.P.H. - Public Health
On Campus

The MPH at the University of Georgia was developed to address the critical need for highly trained public health professionals. Through coursework and field learning experiences, MPH students receive training to provide service and leadership in public health in the state of Georgia, for the nation, and around the globe. The 2-year program is designed for health professionals who wish to expand their skills, knowledge, and expertise, and for students who wish to build a career in public health.
Students are admitted for the fall semester each year, and classes are offered on the UGA campus in Athens. The MPH degree is administered through the College of Public Health, not individual departments. Students can choose one of the following concentrations areas: Biostatistics, Environmental Health Science, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, and Health Promotion and Behavior.

The doctor of public health program is designed to be an advanced professional degree congruent with the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) recommendations for linkages of academic and field experiences in public health. The program’s competency-based curriculum will prepare public health professionals to address complex public health problems through mastery of multiple skills. Distinct from the College’s Ph.D. program, which focuses on the preparation of researchers, the DrPH’s interdisciplinary program will provide students with generalist training in public health. Components of the program will include the acquisition of core as well as specialized knowledge through coursework, interdisciplinary seminars, special studies and the development of a doctoral dissertation relevant to the practice of public health. This interdisciplinary approach distinguishes the DrPH curriculum from other doctoral programs in the College that follow specific academic models.
