McNair Scholars Program

The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program was authorized by Congress in 1986 to honor the late African American astronaut Dr. Ronald E. McNair. It is designed to increase the number of low-income underrepresented students pursuing doctoral degrees and to increase the number of faculty from underrepresented, low-income backgrounds teaching in colleges and universities. The Howard University Ronald E. McNair Program identifies sophomores and juniors who will receive graduate-level research, writing, GRE training, a stipend, counseling, and a six-week summer research program under the guidance of faculty and graduate students.
