A basic tenet of the program is that mathematical content is fundamental to methods, research, and reform in mathematics education. The program has three major strands: mathematics, mathematics education, and cognition. This innovative program prepares scholars who can perform research in K-16 mathematics education, teach college level mathematics, and prepare and work with K-16 mathematics teachers.     Accreditation Information: North Central Association of Colleges and Schools  # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees Students with a Master's in mathematics can apply directly to our Ph.D. program. Students without a Master's degree should apply to our Master's en route option.  Pre-Requisite Courses International Student Requirements An international student is not a citizen of the United States or classified by United States Immigration and Naturalization Service as a resident alien. International undergraduate, transfer, and graduate applicants must meet English Language proficiency as well as academic and financial requirements before being fully admitted to the university. One option to demonstrate English Language proficiency is to successfully complete the UNC Intensive English Language Program. Please see the UNC website for more information.
