Master's
MPH with Health Education specialization
Online

The San Jose State University Master of Public Health Program offers an MPH degree in both a traditional campus-based mode and a distance mode. The Distance Education Program provides health professionals with a 42-unit Master of Public Health degree with specialization in Community Health Education. The MPH degree is completed in 24 months. Students are accepted in cohorts of approximately 25 in the fall semester only. Students must visit the campus for 5-day periods for orientation and classes three times: in mid-August at the beginning of the first and second years, and again in August at the end of the second year for a final class and graduation. All of the career professors from the campus-based MPH program teach most of the courses. They are complemented by experienced adjunct faculty from other institutions and agencies. Instruction is provided via the web-based the Blackboard platform, which is used to deliver and receive course assignments and exams, serves as a forum for asynchronous class discussion, and provides support for course textbooks and other reading material. In addition, the real-time Elluminate platform is also used. Students attend real-time class sessions in the early evening (usually between 6:00 – 9:00 PM - Pacific Time), in most courses, once a week. The Elluminate platform provides students with a live classroom experience from their office or home computer and eliminates the detached 'correspondence school' feeling.

Accreditation Information: The MPH program was established in 1970 and has been fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) since 1974. CEPH is the only organization that is approved by the federal government to accredit Public Health Programs.
