Over its 98-year history, Starr King School has held fast to its purpose - to educate women and men for religious leadership, especially Unitarian Universalist ministry. At the school's heart is a desire to respond to the call of love and life, and a belief in the possibilities that lie within human beings.
Each student engages in a process of self-direction to work towards the Master of Divinity degree. A program of study is given shape by one's vocational aim, gifts, interests, questions, experience, and needs. The School works in partnership with the student in the charting of the educational course, encouraging, making suggestions, offering resources, and presenting challenges.
