AFI offers a comprehensive, aggressive course of study for directors, guided by the premise that great directors must also be great storytellers. The Directing program offers Fellows a thorough understanding of the process of production from the script to the screen, focusing on performance, narrative and visual language. Fellows learn to collaborate with screenwriters and producers, to work with actors and to incorporate the visions of cinematographers, production designers and editors into the final film. This teamwork, coupled with guidance from professional directors, enables Directing Fellows to realize their vision on screen.
