Founded in 1980, the Developmental Teacher Education programis based on the fundamental premise that the quality of learningin the classroom can be substantially improved when theeducational process is understood in terms of children's cognitiveand social development. The DTE program provides intensivestudy of developmental theories and their educationalimplications in a two-year, full-time sequence of coursework andstudent teaching. Program courses are designed to help studentsgrow in their sensitively to sociocultural factors that must beconsidered when designing an equitable and socially justcurriculum to meet the educational needs of children from manybackgrounds.
