M.F.A. - Composition - New Media

The Program in Composition -- New Media is geared toward the serious, creative artist with a musical bias who wishes to prepare to enter this exciting new field. Course work is focused on theory and applications of technological tools, perception and its relation to arts languages, analysis of aesthetic issues, historical background and literature, essential materials from twentieth century music, composition lessons and critique seminars. Advanced media studies include performance with interactive media, nonlinear design strategies, installations, narrative forms, CD-ROMs, and telecommunications arts. Near the end of her or his program, each candidate will present a portfolio of work accomplished at CalArts for faculty evaluation and approval.
