Certificate
Ed.S. in Counselor Education
Online

The Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Counselor Education serves two possible professional needs for interested post-master's students. For those holding a master's degree in School Counseling or certification at the "A" level (AL) or "5th-year" level (GA) by the respective State Departments of Education, the 30 credit-hour Ed.S. may be applied toward "AA" (AL) or "6th-year" (GA) certification. For those holding a master's degree in non-school areas (e.g., Community Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, etc.), the 30 credit-hour Ed.S. may be employed to offset 2000 of the required 3000 hours of post-master's supervision required for licensure by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling. For these students, the required minimum academic curriculum for licensure must be completed prior to enrollment. For either of these professional needs, the Ed.S. is intended to provide course work and supervised experience for advanced practitioners.
