The University of the Arts Master of Industrial Design (MI D) program prepares graduate students for a world where design and collaboration have become an integral part of the business model of innovation. The mission of The UArts MID program is to transform the human experience in life, work, and the environment through a process of integrated thinking, research, collaboration and making. This interdisciplinary approach recognizes the need to balance ecological, social, and economic values in the development of innovative and sustainable responses to today's design challenges. The UArts MID program is committed to a post-disciplinary mode of study that incorporates input and experiences from a variety of disciplines and experts and facilitates collaborative learning through unique design tools and practices. The UArts MI D program differentiates itself from other Industrial Design programs not only through this user experience approach to design, but also through its long-term collaboration and partnerships with key businesses and organizations. Through these partnerships and the Summer Internship program, students have more opportunities to apply their learning and experiences to real-world challenges in regional businesses, as well as for-profit and not-for profit organizations. Our business and organizational partnerships are reciprocal: They allow our students to design in a real-world context. Simultaneously, our partners reap the benefits of experiencing the design process first-hand and seeing how value is created as learning happens and new knowledge is produced.
