The explosion of biological data is revolutionizing approaches towards the discovery of the molecular basis of disease. These discoveries are accelerating the development of novel drugs. Broadly-trained scientists with a strong molecular biology background and a comprehensive knowledge of software development are in critical demand. The Graduate Certificate in Bioinformatics is appropriate for students with a life or computer science background. It trains students for this exciting field. The five-course curriculum includes one core course in bioinformatics, chosen from either Protein Sequence and Structure Analysis or Nucleic Acid Sequence and Structure Analysis, Probability and Statistics, Perl Programming, Advanced Programming in C or Java, and one elective from a varied curriculum.
