On Campus   As a student at Des Moines University's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, you will spend the first year studying the basic medical sciences alongside students in the osteopathic medicine program, followed by specialization in the foot and ankle during the second year. In this way, you are trained as a physician first, then as a foot and ankle specialist. Graduates enjoy opportunities to enter highly renowned residency programs in prestigious hospitals and clinics throughout the U.S. Averages for 2009 incoming students: Overall GPA 3.35; science GPA 3.24. MCAT score 23. Class size 57. First year student:faculty ratio is 7:1.     Accreditation Information: The College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery is accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education of the American Podiatric Medical Association. Des Moines University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Assoc  # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees Bachelor's degree, any field, or a minimum of 90 credit hours of undergraduate study. (Note: The overwhelming majority of accepted students hold a bachelor's degree.)  Pre-Requisite Courses 8 hours Biology with lab; 8 hours General Chemistry with lab; 8 hours Organic Chemistry with lab; 8 hours Physics with lab; 6 hours English or language arts. Highly recommended courses include biochemistry, genetics, comparative anatomy, mathematics, psychology, and medical terminology.
