Oceanography is the interdisciplinary study of the seas, the basins that contain them, the life within them and their linkages with the planetary environment. Oceanography graduate students bring expertise from the traditional sciences, engineering and mathematics to bear on fascinating research. Our greatest strength is our diversity, but our common passion is the oceans. At Texas A&M, you can define your own future in ocean sciences. We offer state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and a sea-going environment. All this with enthusiastic faculty committed to developing new knowledge about the oceans. The Department of Oceanography is committed to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge about the ocean. We educate students about the ocean in the classroom and develop their research skills by involving them directly in research ashore and on ships in all oceans of the world. We study processes and interactions among oceans, atmosphere, biosphere and geosphere by collecting, analyzing, and modeling large data sets to solve important complex problems of immediate and long-term concern to society. We invite highly qualified students with a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in biology, chemistry, geology, physics, mathematics, engineering, or an ocean-related field, to apply for oceanography graduate study at Texas A&M University. Students should apply for admission to the M.S. or Ph.D. program in oceanography and indicate specific interest in one of the four major divisions: biological, chemical, geological, or physical oceanography. Students without an M.S. in oceanography or a related field must apply to the M.S. program, but may take steps to bypass the M.S. after enrolling. Our Web site will link you to the state’s universal electronic application system. Visit today for information on required materials and deadlines, as well as scholarships, fellowships and assistantships.
