In this groundbreaking program, students will engage in the evolving field of fashion studies. Using an interdisciplinary approach, they will study fashion as object, image, practice, theory, and concept and develop a critical understanding of its complex intersections with identities, histories, and cultures in the contemporary world. A two-year full-time program, MA Fashion Studies offers a new academic route for students who want to pursue careers in fashion research, education, and other cultural industries. Core and elective courses will present broad perspectives on fashion and its interfaces with design, production, consumption, imagination, representation, embodiment, and identity.
MA Fashion Studies will be based in the School of Art and Design History and Theory at Parsons, part of The New School, a leading university in New York City. Drawing on the rich cultural resources of New York City, this interdisciplinary program will engage with other graduate programs at Parsons, particularly the MA in the History of Decorative Arts and Design and the new MFA in Fashion Design and Society*, as well as programs in other New School divisions.
