Rehabilitation counselors work with individuals who have mental, emotional, or physical handicaps, helping them to lead self-sufficient lives both at home and on the job. The counselors determine the training and support their clients need to deal with the personal, social, and vocational effects of their conditions. Rehabilitation counselors are employed by publicly funded agencies, schools, and medical facilities. After evaluating their clients' strengths and limitations, counselors arrange for rehabilitation programs that may include medical care, psychological counseling, occupational therapy, and job placement. This program is also offered as a dual-credential (65 credits) program preparing graduates to sit for Professional Counselor licensure in Illinois (LPC) in addition to becoming a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. With the completion of additional counseling psychology coursework, graduates of this program are well prepared for a wide variety of community mental health positions in human services agencies and organizations in the public and private sectors. In order to ensure proper course sequence is followed, applicants should specify the appropriate program at time of application.     Accreditation Information:   # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees Applicants to this program need to have at least a baccalaureate degree earned from a college or university regionally accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or an equivalent degree from an international college or university.  Pre-Requisite Courses Applicants are typically required to have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate and graduate course work. Applicants need to complete the equivalent of 12 semester credit hours in psychology with grades of “C” or better. These courses should include general or introductory psychology, abnormal psychology, theories, of personality, and research methods.
