The program may be appropriate for: Christian laypersons, mission personnel in nonprofessional roles, Christian workers with limited time available for theological study, individuals who need a “trial year” in seminary to better define their goals and calling, Christian educators who need to continue their education, professionals who wish to supplement their college/university education, and/or spouses of Western students who wish to concurrently complete a program of studies in anticipation of vocational ministry. Western Seminary also offers the short and flexible Graduate Studies Certificate (GSC) program for individuals who desire limited and focused theological training for graduate credit and who are interested in receiving a certificate (as opposed to a diploma or degree) upon completing their course of study. Since these credits could also subsequently be applied to degree programs (depending upon the specific curricular requirements for each), the GSC and GSD are also suitable for those who wish to enroll in seminary without making the commitment required for these longer programs. GSC and GSD students are able to select the discipline in which they will take most (or all) of this coursework.     Accreditation Information: Western Seminary is accredited to award master’s and doctor’s degrees by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and is an accredited member of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada.  # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees Students entering the Graduate Studies Certificate or the Graduate Studies Diploma programs are expected to present a baccalaureate degree and give evidence of Christian faith, character, promise, and maturity.  Pre-Requisite Courses International Student Requirements Prior to applying to Western Seminary, international students must complete a Pre-Application that can be requested from the Admissions Department. If an international student is encouraged to apply to Western Seminary, he or she is required to provide a financial guarantee that will cover his or her study and living expenses for one year. It is expected that, barring unforeseen circumstances, adequate funding will be available from the same or equally dependable sources for subsequent years. The financial guarantee must include living expenses for any dependents as well. The guarantee must indicate the individual(s) or organization(s) that will actually provide the funds for study and living expenses.  Requirements Qualifying Exam: None Required Minimum Exam Score: GPA or Equivalent: 2.5 English Proficiency: Yes Research Competency: Yes Clinical Internship: No   Work Experience Volunteer Experience Publications Experience Foreign Language Requirement Other Requirements A recommendation from the applicant’s pastor and three personal recommendations regarding the applicant’s Christian character and leadership potential are required, in addition to the Master's level application, essays, application fee, and transcripts. Applicants, for whom English is not their first language, are required to demonstrate evidence of mastery of the English language for graduate study. The standard for this is through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
