The program provides masters degree candidates with experiences directly related to careers as instrumental conductors in the fields of music education and professional ensemble performance. Candidates who complete this field of study may resume teaching careers or continue further towards doctoral work at other institutions. Candidates explore a wide variety of instrumental literature. The degree requirements can be completed with a one-year residency and some study in the summer. Residency is required for the full-time student. Graduate Assistantships are available for both full and part-time students. What is unique about our program is that we limit the number of full-time student candidates to just two per academic year. This is done to insure that each of our candidates receives ample time on the podium to put into practice all that they study and learn. Graduate Students in the Instrumental Conducting program conduct the university's top wind and percussion ensemble and have numerous opportunities to conduct chamber and string ensembles through their course of study.
