Substance Abuse Education and Prevention Certificate

Individuals currently employed in health-care or social service professions (and those who are currently training for such professions) will encounter substance abuse problems in the populations they serve. This certificate has been designed to upgrade professional skills and knowledge related to substance abuse, screening, prevention, and referral. This certificate can be earned as an independent certificate or can be used to supplement graduate education in related fields such as Applied Health Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, Educational Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Medical Anthropology and other related fields. The NAU Interdisciplinary Gradutate Certificate in Substance Abuse Education and Prevention (IGCSAEP) may be earned: • As a post-baccalaureate certificate • In conjunction with a graduate degree • To complement an earned graduate degree Completion of the NAU IGCSAEP improves professional competence relevant for a number of different careers. The program will provide you with • An in-depth understanding of substance abuse issues, including the social, psychological, and physiological issues as well as specific skills in assessment, screening, and referral. • Enhanced professional development • Foundation in how to develop strategies to educate and prevent individuals from abuse substances
