M.A. Kinesiology and Sport Studies

The Department of Kinesiology, Leisure and Sport Sciences offers the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Kinesiology and Sport Studies with concentrations in K-12 Physical Education; Exercise Physiology and Performance, and Sport Management. These concentrations are designed to prepare students as master physical education teachers or for positions in rehabilitation programs; corporate and community wellness programs, athletic administration, sport management, motor sport management, and advanced graduate studies. The Exercise Physiology and Performance Concentration is designed for students who desire an in-depth understanding of the scientific basis of exercise and sport physiology as well as preparation for advanced research (e.g., Ph.D.). The program focuses on the application of the biological, physical, social and behavioral areas necessary for an in-depth study of physical activity and sport and their effects on the performance, health, fitness and quality of life. Our program is characterized by nationally and internationally recognized faculty and a dynamic intellectual community. Students have the option of specializing in one of three tracks: 1) Research; 2) Wellness; 3) Coaching and Sports Performance. Students may choose to emphasize one of the following tracks: 1.Research – specialize in research and/or seek advanced studies(i.e., doctoral degree) 2.Wellness – specialize in health and fitness for various populations 3.Coaching & Sports Performance – specialize in coaching and performance enhancement in sports (cooperative program with sport management)
