Several of our research programs focus on the biology and ecology of pests affecting the major crops of Idaho and the region. We also conduct research on the biology of mosquitoes that can vector human pathogens and on insects as biological control agents to manage invasive weeds. Each of these research programs requires to varying degrees, study of the behavior, ecology, chemical ecology and physiology of insects. The department offers Idaho's only: Bachelor of Science degrees in Horticulture, Crop and Weed Science and Soil and Land Resources; Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Entomology, Plant Science, and Soil Science; and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Entomology, Plant Science, and Soil Science.     Accreditation Information:   # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees Students must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and the grade point average should normally be a 3.0 or higher. Strong letters of recommendation or progressive grade improvement in the junior and senior years will be given special attention in marginal cases.  Pre-Requisite Courses International Student Requirements All applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL). International students from English-speaking countries and those who have earned a degree from either a U.S. institution or an institution in another English-speaking country are not required to submit a TOEFL score. The test uses a multiple-choice format to measure the ability to understand North American English, and it consists of three sections: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension. A score of at least of at least 213 on the Computer Based Test (CBT) or 79 Internet Based Test(IBT) is required for admission into the Department of Plant, Soil and Entomological Sciences. The university's minimum TOEFL score for admission is 525.
