The University of Idaho's Division of Entomology in the Department of Plant, Soil and Entomological Science is dedicated to developing and communicating knowledge about the biology of insects, the problems they cause and benefits they can provide for human beings. Several of our research programs focus on the biology and ecology of pests affecting the major crops of Idaho and the region. We also conduct research on the biology of mosquitoes that can vector human pathogens and on insects as biological control agents to manage invasive weeds. Each of these research programs requires to varying degrees, study of the behavior, ecology, chemical ecology and physiology of insects. The department offers Idaho's only: Bachelor of Science degrees in Horticulture, Crop and Weed Science and Soil and Land Resources; Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Entomology, Plant Science, and Soil Science; and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Entomology, Plant Science, and Soil Science.
