The goal of this program is to train scientists in translational research - the application of basic or applied research to the understanding, prevention and treatment of human diseases. This program is funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute "Med Into Grad" initiative and is consistent with National Institutes of Health Roadmap directives. Graduates will be well prepared to collaborate with physicians and for the challenge of using molecular and cellular biology to advance human health. The first year of studies is devoted to lab rotations and a core curriculum in human physiology, biochemistry, metabolism and pharmacology, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, infection and immunity, and biostatistics and epidemiology. In the following years, the student selects a Research Advisor and Clinical Mentor at the Cleveland Clinic or Case Western Reserve University and completes their thesis research.
