This is a new joint-degree program between Virginia Tech and Georgetown University offering a Master of Science degree. It is designed for those interested in careers such as Research Management, Regulatory Oversight or Technology Transfer, or those wishing to advance their career in the private or public sector dealing with drugs, biologics or medical devices. The degree is geared toward the working professional. It is suited for the individual who currently has a position as a scientist, clinician or manager and who seeks career advancement and leadership in the complex discipline of medical product development and regulation. This unique degree integrates science with technology, management, ethics, and public policy and offers an opportunity for students to hone skills that are becoming increasingly necessary for professional advancement in both the public and private sectors. This partnership between Virginia Tech and Georgetown University will prepare graduates to: 1. Assume leadership roles in various industries and government agencies that design, develop, produce, market, regulate and develop policy for medical products including: Management of product research and development Management of regulatory compliance Management of clinical trials 2. Lead a transformation of methods by which basic scientific descoveries are translated into medically useful products. 3. Demonstrate depth as well as cross-functional flexibility in a team-based multidisciplinary environment. 4. Make significant contributions to the field of medical product development. Program graduates are awarded a Master of Science degree from the Virginia Tech and Georgetown University partnership. The diploma includes the seal and signatures from both universities.
